The idea of Scholarships for Working Mothers is nothing new or ground-breaking in today’s day and age…but the simple lack of leadership and the small amounts invested in such grants and programs don’t normally add up to the costs of tuition, or the ease of access necessary to a full-time worker. Society today is at a unique point, where the education, liberation and equalization of women has almost reached a standstill.

It is assumed that because women are equal on paper, they are treated equally in day-to-day social interactions with their peers. While in normal cases, this is true, it is markedly harder for a single mother to apply for things like a mortgage, or a car lease, or even a Student Loan on her own. It is harder for a single working mother in the first place, to hold a job and to be away from a child that needs nuturance and care from their mother…

It has been proven in many scientific studies that not only do children develop more fully when nurtured by another person, but the ideal socialization and well-being of adulthood depends on a strong, naturally developed bond with the immediate family for up to four years post-birth. This, in itself is a strong argument for the advocacy of structured, easily-accessible Scholarship programs for working mothers, but its not just simply saying the words ‘easily-accessible’. The ideal situation for today’s working mother would be a free-to-low cost Scholarship admissions process, as well as individual representation within the University of her choice.

This working representative would work to the benefit of the mother by aiding in acquiring funding, scholarships, benefits, and other important knowledge and information that the average person would have no access to. In an ideal world, a Scholarship for a working mother would not only cover the costs of full tuition and materials needed for the entire duration of her educational carreer, but would also be sufficient to facilitate the ability to concentrate very simply on the betterment of not only herself and her life situation, but also that of a future member of our society at large…her child.

A mother should be able to rightfully say that advancement of her education IS her career, and that an investment in Scholarships for working mothers is an intelligent venture that will certainly appreciate in time.
